My Favourite Waterfalls in Ontario

When you think about waterfalls, typically Ontario Canada isn’t the first place that would come to mind. It probably isn’t the second or third either. I know when I think of waterfalls I either think of the lush tropical waterfalls in Hawaii, or the stunning waterfalls in Iceland. Seeing as Hawaii and Iceland aren’t realistic day trip options, I put together a list of my favourite waterfalls in southern Ontario! The waterfalls on this list are all on public property and are all relatively easy to get to. Trust me, if I can get down to these waterfalls, so can you!
1, Belfountain Conservation Area - 10 Credit Park St
The first waterfall on this list is in Belfountain conservation area. This waterfall is super easy to get to, with almost no hiking required! There is a suspension bridge that goes over the waterfall and into a forest where you can explore more of the conservation area.
2. Decew Falls - 2710 Decew Road Decew Falls is in St Catharines Ontario, but its definitely worth the drive. The hike down is a bit of a struggle, but once you get down its so rewarding. The waterfall is so beautiful. My friends and I had to climb down with a rope that was tied on to some tree roots when we went. I’m not sure if theres an easier way, but if you follow the trail farther away there might be a better option.

3. Hoggs Falls - Lower Valley Rd, Flesherton Hoggs Falls is in flesherton Ontario, and its the same deal, you have to climb down with a rope. The hike is gorgeous in any season though, I've been in the summer and in the winter. If you’re planning on visiting in the winter, be careful because the trail gets really icy and slippery. 10/10 worth the rock climb.

5. Chedoke Falls
Chedoke Falls is one of the many waterfalls in Hamilton Ontario. On this specific trail there are several waterfalls, but Cherokee is the biggest one. It's a little more difficult to get to than the others. Lower Chedoke is along the trail, but to get to Upper Chedoke you've got to follow the stream and hike up some rocks. I personally think its worth the trek, its a stunning waterfall and you can swim in the water (though I wouldn't recommend it).

6. Princess Falls
Princess Falls is one of the waterfalls on the same trail as Chedoke. This one is at the beginning of the trail, after you walk through the fence by the golf course. its way easier to get down to than Upper Chedoke, but both are gorgeous!

7. Lynn River Falls
Lynn River Falls is the cutest waterfall in Port Dover that flows into Lake Erie. Jordan and I came across the waterfall on our way to dinner when we visited the beach town last summer. Port Dover is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. It has a great beach, lots of cute shops, and real palm trees that are planted by the restaurant owner every May long weekend - you can read more about Port Dover in my Port Dover travel diary blog post.
